Went to Cimarron for fish tonight with my mother — fantastic, give me that deep fried haddock, cole slaw, baked potato, rye bread… yummy. Waitress asked, butter or tartar sauce? omg, do you even have to ask…. BUTTER it was delicious

Wanted to go out for Friday fish fry tonight but with it being Lent it will probably be difficult getting into a good fish place since I work until 5:30. Question is where is your go to place for the best fish fry? Lately my two favorites are the VFW and Cimmeron. Flagstone is very good as well.

A friend of mine and I recently went to Town Council in Neenah for the first time. A few points you may want to take in mind before visiting. They dont have a website. Their menu is French inspired and the menu changes occasionally based what is fresh, what the chef wants to do or whatever. Regardless, you have to go to their facebook page and scroll facebook page images to find their latest menu and kinda hope it is what it is. Not too hard to regularly update a website in 2017. They just choose not to. We arrived as a part of two. This place is like a typical avenue hallway bar in size. Think Home Burger Bar sized. They seated us at the bar. My friend was initially concerned about sitting at the bar because, they prep their food right behind the bar and didnt want herhair to smell like the kitchen. I dont have longhair. So, I dont know these things. Ill go with her on this. #longhairedpeopleproblems. She is 51 and an able bodied distance runner. Regardless of that, she had quite the trouble in the irregularly high bar stools. The chef explained how to ladder up the barstool using the other barstool to ratchet up. But still, a problem. So we ask to sit at a table, we get seated at one of the three high-top tables in the back because they seat people in 2s in the back or at the bar in favor of the front in case they can fill the four seater tables. Be advised #shortpeopleproblems. And you have to be able bodied. The chef and the waitstaff did a top notch job going over the menu and explaining not just what the items were but why they were and how people would order them and made suggestions. They have some really good drinks on the drink menu. Almost everything is gin based but many are flavored so the juniper is not overpowering. I had a tequila drink to start with the foie gras. Clean and fresh drink. And a nice, taste of foie gras. I ordered the rabbit leg confit and she had the NY strip. They make the steak med rare unless you tell them otherwise. The rabbit leg went well with the bacon and beans. The strip apparently was fattier than expect and some pieces could not be chewed. She had a separate drink but I cant find the name of it because I cant find their menu online. But it was not a drink you take lightly. It let you know to sip it slowly. Food is served on all thrift store find curated plates. For dessert, we had an ice cream sandwich. All prepared by their pastry chef and made by hand, in house. That was a definite treat. Plan ahead in your stomachs real estate to have dessert. There are also digestives, we had one oddly named stolen from jeff. At least thats what I remember the name was. Bit of an odd name but regardless a nice dessert drink. Frothy and tasty. There are some definite inconveniences going here but they definitely have some unique offerings for the Valley. You may have to research to find out what they are or just go in blind and hope they have something on their menu that fits your fancy. And be prepared to handle the seating. The food is luxurious and the restaurant is like ones you find in the urban centers of the world, small, not too decorated, not whipping around fancy decor but offering you a chance to eat what you wont find everywhere else.

The Joy Cardin Show this morning posed an interesting question: Many diners are concerned about where their food comes from, but do you also consider how a restaurant treats employees when choosing where to eat? The guest was the author of this book, and I found the discussion very interesting. There is definitely one restaurant that I will never return to because of the way the owner treats his employees. 🙂

Had lunch,at Mi Casa. 3 tables occupied. The waitress I believe was the owner. She was pleasant. However; when complimented on the Salsa Verde and asked what was in it other than avocado and jalapenos her answer was, I dont know. I made sure to let her know from the start that I was unable to consume cilantro so that it would not even be used as garnish. I ordered my meal. Huevos Mexicanos, with corn tortillas. She brought out a cup of chicken soup; complimentary, it had cilantro. The food came out, it was ok. Beans were good, eggs ok, but smothered in tomato sauce unable to taste the onions, jalapenos or any natural flavors. Rice, maybe a spoon full, it was edible. Tortillas tasted store bought and had been microwaved, became hard once the foil was opened. Husband had veggie fajitas absolutley no seasoning at all. They took veggies and put them on a fajita tray. Tortillas same as mine. Overall, not an authentic experience. I was so excited to try their food as the reviews had been good on the site. Dessert was listed on the daily special but we were told they were sold out. Two other issues I had. The weather has been so cold. I had been looking forward to eating without having to wear a coat. It was frigid in the restaraunt. I made a mention to the server twice and was ignored. Although, in the bathroom they had a space heater on?? 2nd while we were eating they were using chemicals to mop the dining room. It was very unpleasant. Our quest for authentic Mexican continues…

Wondering why you put the kibosh on comments for the recent Wilders thread. I havent been there and because I couldnt find a website (which I was surprised they didnt have) I was hoping someone could answer a couple questions. Like, are their fries frozen or homemade? Do they make their own onion rings? What kind of hot sauce do they provide? Anyone can cook a steak, but for me its the little things that make or break, and I dont care about waiting.

I just got home from a Friday fish fry at Jacks or Better. I said that I would give them another go when they said they got another chef. Well, my previous review hasnt really changed. The food is ok. I had my usual perch and fries, my wife had a combo of fried haddock and shrimp. I had 3 fillets, my wife had 2 smaller pieces of haddock and 4 good sized shrimp. My perch were good, but small and my fries must have come from the bottom of the bag because most of them were under one inch in length. My wifes shrimp were good but her haddock was a little over cooked. My coleslaw came in a small condiment container, and my wifes veggie medley came in a container the next size up. (portion control) When we arrived, we were told 30 to 45 minute wait, which we said was fine. There were at least 7 empty tables in the main dining area. There was a large group that sat in the other dining area. Large being 10 to 12 people. We sat at the bar and had a drink, an old fashioned sweet and a virgin mary. The bar tab was $7.50. The old fashioned was $3.50 and the virgin mary……..I said VIRGIN mary was $4,00. For those of you that dont drink, a virgin mary has NO FRIGGIN ALCOHOL!!! There were plenty of wait staff, so there shouldnt have been that long of a wait except to get patrons to drink. When I was asked about the $4.00 for a virgin mary, I was told that the bartenders dont set the price. When we left, there were 7 or 8 empty tables, but the bar was full. I have no problems waiting at the bar and having a drink when the restaurant is busy, but not when there are empty tables and plenty of wait staff. I also understand portion control and that businesses need to make a profit. However, I dont need linen table cloths and to wait for no reason. I really wanted to like this place like I did when it was the Flying Dutchman, but, there are too many other real Wisconsin Supper Clubs out there for me to go back there. I wish them all the luck, and maybe they will make a go of it, but it will be without me.

In reading all these posts I have to ask……what brings you back to a restaurant? What turns you off? I have to say we do eat out a LOT and although I was a hostess I never waitressed. Anyone can see its a TOUGH hard job and you have to have consideration for the situation. We give a restaurant 3 strikes. If I have 3 bad experiences then I know its a fail and Im off to spend my money elsewhere. We also take into consideration that if its Friday night or Sunday morning, I EXPECT to wait. Restaurants cant create additional seating if they are full and if you see an empty table it doesnt mean a waitress is available to take on more customers. BE KIND, it gets you so much further. If your food is wrong, tell them nicely-dont get angry (mistakes happen). Dont expect a restaurant to give you a free meal because you didnt get your toast or side dish on time. Again, mistakes happen. They will fix the situation and if they dont, try the 3 strike rule. Management is the key to a good restaurant, not just the food or prices. Im just curious what everyone else expects and how they determine if they will go back. 1 strike, 2, 3??? One bad experience and they are done? Maybe Im just a softy but I feel like one visit doesnt give you the total picture unless the infraction is so aweful you cant get past it. Happy Sunday Folks and happy eating 🙂

Went to Stuc s Pizza tonight and what a disappointing experience! My husband and I with our two grandchildren arrived and got on the wait list for a table for 6. We were told it would be about a ten to fifteen minute wait and that was not a problem as we were waiting for the kids parents Twenty minutes later with all of our party there we see a party of six leave and the tables get set for a party of four and the other table set for two! These are people that have all come in after us. We ask why we arent being seated and are told they were waiting for a different table to open up that is more convenient for the server! None of the other large groups were anywhere near being finished with their meal. Who knows how long we would have to wait. We left and went to The Glass Nickel. We were seated right away and had great service and great pizza. So be forewarned, if you have more than four people in your party, you are at their mercy on when they will seat you at Stucs. This is not the first time this happened to us, that is why I decided to post this time.
