This is sort of a DIT / IT specific question. I have a gig coming up where Ill be data wrangling and AE prep/sync. I think I will be running 2 computers connected via 10Gb ethernet directly. Im guessing that if I set up the ethernet ips and file sharing up properly, shotput pro SHOULD be able to dump onto drive(s) on the computer connected via ethernet. Pretty sure it will work fine but just wondering if anyone has done this? One computer will be taking card dumps all day, and the other computer will be transcoding, and ill be sync/prepping, and ANY assembly thats possible (probably very little lol) Ill be doing. Im mostly talking out loud to myself and seeing if i get an echo back from anyone of you thats gone down this path. Thanks in advance for any input

Hey everyone! After effects question. Im trying to create an animating list and this grey shape is supposed to expand downward as the list goes on. I moved the anchor point to the bottom edge of my graphic and disabled proportional scaling. Still scales both bottom and top. Am I doing it wrong?

Heres a question that will elicit completely subjective answers. But have at it. You have 25 hours worth of raw documentary footage. How many hours to edit into an hour long piece? There may or may not be a rough script.

Hey all: Im starting a new feature doc (which, for now, is essentially self-funded) and my collaborators and I are split on the Avid/Premiere question. Though were able to physically cut on either, one side is pushing for Avid because of its ease of project sharing between collaborators, rock-solid project stability, and ease/solidity in ultimately transferring to online/mix; the other side is pushing for Premiere because of its ease of use without full AE support (which we probably wont have until funded), connectivity to the rest of the Creative Suite, and ability to work quickly and efficiently with various resolutions/framerates/etc. Any thoughts from the group? Any recent experiences that have caused you to give up on one or embrace the other? Are the assumptions above correctly applied to one or the other or are they both strong/weak in those areas? Happy to answer any questions about the details of our production if they help to lead to an answer. Just trying not to unduly influence the discussion with my preference.

Handbrake Question: Im trying to rip some DVDs so I can use some clips for a documentary. Im using a Handbrake preset (1080p 30fps) yet the output file seems to get corrupted every time > video and sound are completely distorted. The DVD itself plays fine, so I dont think thats the problem. Ive used handbrake before without this kind of issue, so any guidance/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Question for you all. Involved with a shoot where they filmed at 60fps, 40fps, and 23.976fps. What is the best way to bring it into an Avid, with delivery at 23.98? Also, am I looking at a headache because of the frame rates?

Heres a question… Im an offliner so to all you colorists out there… whats the advantage to shooting footage so muted and then adding the LUT on in post? Why not just shoot right the first time and enhance that image? Ive always wondered but a conversation with other editors over lunch spurred me to pose the question here. Have at it. Im curious to know the advantages.

Ethical question (thanks in advance for your patience): I came across a post on I Need An Editor the other day and noticed that someone with whom I had worked for a couple weeks on a previous project had posted a link to their portfolio. This person was on the campaign for about a week and I worked on it for several months. They had completed a couple of very rough stringouts of spots that I then took over after theyd left and took to the finish line, getting through several rounds of internal and client notes. They are ultimately my edits. I clicked through to this persons portfolio and found that these spots are embedded on their site as their work. At first, I laughed it off but the more Ive thought about it, the more frustrated Ive gotten, feeling that its pretty damn unscrupulous. Maybe Im overreacting, but Im not sure how to proceed. Should I ask that they take the spots down? How would you approach this? Thank you so much for any and all feedback.
