Hello everyone! New to the group and I do have a question. I own several vehicles, this question is about a 97 Audi A4 with the 1.8t. Ive driven it for 10,000 miles after I rebuilt the top end and its been running wonderful until about 2 months ago. I was driving a long distance trip and after about 100 miles, a coolant hose pops off. Yeah… Just poof! Not connected. It was very cold at the time and I didnt look into it much, just towed it home. I checked into it yesterday, found another hose had just popped off. I refilled the coolant and let the car get to temp. No heat. I revved it for awhile and it does overheat. Most likely thermostat. So my question is, have any of you ever had hoses just pop off because of a thermostat failure? These hoses have the quick clamp style. The kind you remove with a pliers.
Jeremiah Bean: You should look into whether that thermostat fails opened or closed
Ben Otto: It fails closed
Jeremiah Bean: That could potentially build up pressure. Weird it completely pushed off the hoses
Ronald Johnson Sr: Ive seen it take a head gskt out ,so the. Possibility of it taking a hose, yes
Ben Otto: Wow, really? Ok then. At least its not too far out of the realm of possibilities. Personally Ive never seen that happen! First time for everything?
Ronald Johnson Sr: I would definitely change clamps on hose ,use a regular band hose clamps they are more secure
Ben Otto: Ok Ill do that.
